Artists – the sævi agency

SEDACTION

Sedaction (pronouns she/her) is an artist and DJ currently based in Cologne. Spending her time for years in Clubs – working and dancing her ass off – she started finding her path in mixing stylistically versatile energetic sounds. Connecting mostly rhythm and vibes, trying to break the boundaries for classic 4-to-the-floor set’s by establishing electronic sounds from not only the western culture, is her main focus in the selection.

The Club Heart Broken member thrives to either make the crowd shake and dance hard or just chill and vibe to the sounds. As there is no limit in genres you will hear everything from house, techno, electro to experimental, jazz, rap, soul to batida, dembow, gqom and govend and dabke and…just tune in.

UTA

A veteran and somewhat legend to Berlin’s bass music scene, selecta DJ UTA’s resume spans from co-running UK bass dedicated party Rec Room (alongside Sarah Farina and Kepler) to providing killer sets for the likes of Rinse FM, Boiler Room, HÖR and Berceuse Heroique mix series.

In addition to appearing at cult-favorite clubs like Berlin’s OHM, Hamburg’s Golden Pudel and Conne Island in Leipzig, she has frequented CTM Festival and DEEP MEDI as well as Europe’s best sound system projects including Nik Nowak’s explorations of sonic warfare: “Sound(ing) Systems” at KINDL Center for Contemporary Art Berlin and the legendary KILLASAN Sound System at Haus der Kunst Munich (a collaboration with Goethe Institute; spanning art, culture and musical crossover).

Schooled in classic house and techno as part of the German capital’s thriving underground scene in the ’90s, UTA’s wide-ranging selections are tied together by her skillful technique, honed over decades behind the decks. An avid and adventurous listener, she hunts down hidden gems in second-hand record shops, mixing them with new and future sounds of bass music, grime, breaks, 2-step and dub.

Over the years her passion for musical diversity and intention to find the origin of what she is playing has only grown. UTA enjoys digging deeper into the history, roots and politics of sounds and genres, it’s often and still a reflection of time for her.

UTA is currently a resident for Berlin’s WARNING party and label crew and has her own radio show, ‘Escape Radio’ every second month on Refuge Worldwide.

Coco Cobra

Coco Cobra has been DJing since 2019. During the pandemic, she began focusing on breakbeat, electro, and all other sounds outside of the 4 to the floor sound.

She is a member of the club and DJ collective soft spot. The group is founded in 2019 by queers and FLINTAs in Hanover, Germany. They are looking for spaces for experimental, electronic sounds and queer-feminist politics on and off the dance floor.

Best Boy Electric

Best Boy Electric is a DJ, promoter and selector with a clear focus on classic Detroit electro. As part of the queer feminist collective POSSY and co-founder of the webradio HALLO:Radio Best Boy Electric is not only organizing various events but is taking a stand for more FLINTA* presence and is steadily leaving their mark on Hamburg’s scene and sound.

The rich musical background and a soft spot for punk characterize their sets: sometimes wavey, EBM-ish but most of the time electro in its different characteristics. The Pudel resident will provide you with dark and hot electro records.

DALO

DALO (also known as Nadia D’Alò) is a producer and live musician from Berlin. Originally from Darmstadt, near Frankfurt am Main, and coming from a band background, she learned sound design during her studies in digital media sound. In 2012, Nadia became part of the duo INIT with releases on Hivern Disc and Lddlm. As INIT she made her first live experiences in clubs such as Berghain, Rex Club, Robert Johnson and Nitsa Club.

After her first solo releases as Nadia D’Alò in 2018, with appearances on ESP Institute and WARNING, she created her alias DALO. Nadias sound has a sinister aesthetic with a stripped-back approach to production, combining ritualistic drums, industrial percussion and scratchy acid lines with a blurry montage of demonic sighs and whispers. The result is deeply hypnotic.

It’s precisely this dose of danger that keeps the listener inquisitive and on-edge, a potent potion that Nadia has proven effective without over-cooking or adding extraneous ingredients. She is a bold and confident artist, one whose firm grasp of a particularly psychedelic craft supports a warped command of nuance.

Uncanny Valley

Starting as a label that basically served as a platform for their friends’ music in 2010, UV evolved into a record label that assembles acclaimed artists from the electronic music scene not only from the label’s base in Dresden but also from Germany and beyond.

With a strong emphasis on the records’ artwork, the label heads Philipp Demankowski, Conrad Kaden, Carl-Johannes Schulze and Albrecht Wassersleben are constantly on a mission to establish and refine the artists from the roster as well as to search for new talents. Producers like Jacob Korn, Cuthead, Credit 00, Massimiliano Pagliara, CVBox or Panthera Krause all feel at home on the label, giving them the chance to develop projects that are not only music related but can also integrate different art forms.

With the two offshoots Rat Life and shtum under its belt, Uncanny Valley does not stand still to explore the full spectrum of electronic and not so electronic music from House via Disco or Ambient through to Techno. A range that can also be depicted when the four label heads come together for a DJ set as Uncanny Valley Soundsystem.

Johannes Albert

Certified Hit-Producer & DJ from Berlin. Running the Frank Music label for a decade, playing all over and having a residency at the infamous ‘Renate’ club made him a mainstay in the global dance music circuit.

As word of his DJ reputation spreads, Johannes plays shows from London to Tokyo – from Augsburg to Cape Town. This should come as no surprise given the killer combination of running two of his own labels named Frank Music & Fine, dropping music on imprints such as Live At Robert Johnson and Permanent Vacation, the multiple well-loved online mixes to his name and a host of genre spanning alias and side projects. Going the extra mile Johannes is known for playing modern disco euphoria mixed with a little acid, a classic at the right time and an all-time open mind when it comes to genres. Current rave revivals anyone?
Raised around Würzburg in beautiful Franconia, a young Johannes soon became enchanted with the house & disco sound of the time and has followed it deep into techno, acid, electro, italo and beyond ever since. He naturally had the essential DJ quality of being a likeable chap and many of his local heroes gave him a head start by sharing their DJ secrets with him. Knowing when to drop a hit and when to take it deep, spacey and underground saw him graduate from his hometown clubs and quickly establish himself as a staple of the German scene.

Frank Music was started mainly as a platform for Johannes Albert productions and is home to much of his best work. Highlights have been 3 solo albums including the ambient masterpiece “Spessart” being the latest and tracks like “Giovanni Frizzante” & “Fountain Of Youth”, which became a bit of a Panorama Bar anthem. I:Cube, Lauer, Fred P, Mary Yalex, David Jackson & Prins Thomas have also contributed to the label. Fine on the other hand – the label he takes care of together with Tilman – is rooted in House Music all the way. At times a sample and a beat are all it takes to make a floor go bang.

2021 sees Frank Music release Iron Curtis & Johannes Albert’s “Moon III”, a collaborative album between Albert and Iron Curtis. The Berlin based pair have been playing together for some time and their third LP showcases some of the darker, moody material the pair are capable of. This may come as a surprise to the thousands of people who know Albert from summery, uplifting online mixes such as his sets from Fusion Festival or from the Gottwood Festival B2B with Move D. Remix wise he keeps himself busy with his latest work for andhim, Get Physical, Keinemusik, Monaberry & Catz ‘N Dogz.

Since moving to Berlin, Johannes has found kindred spirits with the crew of residents from the notorious party hotspots Renate & Else. Now an official resident not just in Berlin but with the club’s growing list of international parties, he finds himself moving floors globally. With the anything goes, super fun approach to their parties, this is a perfect home base for him to explore his multiple influences. With this in mind you can be sure he is packing a box of fully road-tested tricks for his next club adventure.

Philipp Schultheis

Berlin based DJ Philipp Schultheis is an enthusiastic selector, collector and dancer.

Former Frankfurt resident Philipp Schultheis has become a Berlin regular with lightning speed by playing well-chosen house and disco tracks. After holding a residency at Marlon Hoffstadt’s Savour The Moment series, he is notorious for endless and uplifting sets. Ransom Note called him a disc jockey on the rise. Even if he’s not into producing (yet), there is much output to get familiar with his sound. His mix for Crack Magazine is blending glittering technicolour cuts into a buoyant, hour-long excursion primed for the dance. ZeeZout describes his sound as deep space astrofunk and synthesizer induced orgasms courtesy, weaved together into an exuberant mix jam-packed with synths, vocoders, and 808’s. For Bordello A Parigi as well as Sinchi Collective, he contributed two each carefully selected, four-hour Italo Only sets, containing guilty pleasures and hidden treasures as well as contemporary Italo biggies.

Apropos Guilty Pleasures, he started the eponymous series of events at renowned Paloma Bar in 2019.

LUZ1E

Eclecticism is the keyword when it comes to the musical taste of LUZ1E. Based on her love of harsh drums, weird bleeps and bouncy basslines, she interweaves dark Electro with complex Breaks, Bass, Techno and the occasional dreamy bop.

Born and raised in Frankfurt she quickly developed a keen interest in electronic music when her brother introduced her to early House music. Inspired by the dance sound of Detroit, Chicago, New York and the UK she translates diverse sonic influences into her sets and productions released under labels such as Lobster Theremin, Shall not Fade, International Chrome and Voitax, which build a bridge between classic tunes and new sounds combining them into a notion of futuretroism.
